For The Bone-Weary, An Emotional Playlist Ft. One Direction, Tom Odell, K.Will, Jamie Cullum, Etc.

By  September 5, 2013

We are already three-quarters of our way through 2013, and I know a lot of us should be chugging along on auto-pilot by now, wondering when we will get to wish the year goodbye and welcome in a new change. Still, whilst you may wish for someone to wake you up when September ends, there really isn't any way around fast-forwarding time (as of yet), so this Spotify playlist should probably ease those bone-weary souls and perhaps inject a bit of hope and optimism for the rest of the month.

I came up with this playlist when I was feeling particularly down and out, in the same pose as the little guy above. I call it the emotional playlist because of the intense emotions that I felt these songs drew out when I listened to them, and I hope you do too. Starting off we have Jamie Cullum with a Sad, Sad World, as he spitefully sings, "So what's your game plan / Walking among the wasteland" and later on, somewhat hopefully, "Won't you help me paint a smile, on a sad, sad world?" Sometimes when you are tired, you just feel like wallowing in your weariness for a while, and that's what the first half of the playlist does.

And who does sad, tired and lonely better than some Tom Odell and Kpop? I recently watched the drama Big (2012), and it's rare for a drama to have a solid OST, so I have been really into Tears Fall Again by Park Sang-Joon and Because It's You by the lead actor Gong Yoo. Both have soothing, heartstring-tugging vocals that make you want to fall into the song over and over again. Also, it is heartbreaking, so get it on YouTube if it's not showing up on the playlist.

Of course, once we're done with all the misery, we should put on something lighthearted and easy listens, so again, Cullum tells me to Get A Hold of Myself, while a Jesse McCartney (the Bieber of my time, with better visuals & vocals :o) track, Back Together, channels a Justin Timberlake-esque vibe to get me in a dancing mood. Probably one of the better indie Kpop bands out there, J Rabbit totally lifts my mood with their jazzy piano melodies and saccharine, emotive vocals. It's fun fun fun from here, so why not add in a One Direction song just for some silly?

It's a moderate length playlist, but the rollercoaster ride of emotions ends on a good note, so here's to hoping it will put a smile on your face! :)
