5 Grammy-Award Winners That Have Won Oscars!

By  March 2, 2016

We all know the Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars) are as important as the Grammys are to musicians. However, there haven’t been many Grammy-award winners that have also won an Oscar! Here are 5 Grammy-Award winners that have won an Oscar.

Prince – Purple Rain

Frequently hailed as one of the best albums of all time, Prince released the magnum opus of his career in 1984 to critical acclaim. The title track soon became one of the most iconic songs in history and it was no surprise when Prince won the Oscar for Best Original Score in 1985.

Bruce Springsteen – Streets of Philadelphia

People largely remember Philadelphia for Tom Hanks’ incredible role as Andrew Beckett, and the then-controversial topics of homosexuality, homophobia and AIDS. This song won 4 Grammy Awards alone and when Oscar season came along, everyone expected Bruce Springsteen to nab the Academy Award for Best Original Song too.

Eminem – Lose Yourself

Nobody saw Eminem as a critically-acclaimed actor, nor would anyone have expected a hip-hop artist to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The highly controversial and well-respected megastar proved everyone wrong with a hit film, 8 Mile, and a song that people will forever associate with the movie till this day.

The Beatles – Let It Be

The Beatles ended their 10-year career with a documentary and one last studio album that spawned one of the most iconic songs ever. The instantly-recognizable classic that everyone knows also happened to win a Grammy and an Oscar for Best Original Song Score that none of The Beatles turned up to accept.

Adele – Skyfall

Adele’s first nomination led her to her first Academy Award win barely 5 years into her career. To be honest, none of the other songs stood a chance up against the mammoth Bond Theme.
