Weekly Roundup – Let’s ‘Rise’ with Katy Perry & to 5 Seconds Of Summer’s new sound!

By  July 17, 2016

This week has been filled with new releases, there are just so MANY! We have got 5 Seconds of Summer for Ghostbusters, Katy Perry for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics and even music videos from Narelle Kheng and Nathan Hartono. I'm sure you don't want to miss anything.

1.     Josh Devine Gives Back

You may know Josh Devine as the session drummer for One Direction, or from his collaboration with fellow English singer Ollie Green. Josh is man of many talents; he has been drumming since the age of 3 and now is even a singer and songwriter. When One Direction went on hiatus, this meant that he would be on hiatus as well. So this is what he has been up to,

The Hardest Places with Josh Devine

It is truly heartening to see that Josh partnered up with Food For The Hungry and is now the ambassador of the East Rwandan community of Nyagihanga. Great work!

2.     5SOS Debuts Their New Sound

TBT the interview that the guys of 5SOS mentioned that Girls Talk Boys would be the beginning of their ‘sound change’. At that point in time, I didn’t really know what to expect from the change, or if they would sound drastically different from their past music. Their music has definitely grown more mature over the years and now that they are turning into young adults, they are taking a step up on their latest single.

I am loving their new sound on Girls Talk Boys and cannot wrap my head around how good this track is. All I can think about is how good this song would sound live, please come back to Singapore soon boys. The song will be part of the Ghostbusters soundtrack, along with other tracks by Zayn Malik, Fall Out Boys, Missy Elliot and more.

3.     Let’s All Rise To The Occasion

We are 3 weeks away from the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics! Although the focus would ultimately be on the athletes and the games, let’s take a moment to talk about the anthems from the games. Katy Perry has released Rise, which she had been working on for a while but decided to release it now for the games. American broadcasting channel, NBC, will be using this track during the broadcast of the games.

On this note, we want to wish Team Singapore all the best at the games!

4.     Updates From 2 Home-grown Singers

In the last week, 2 of our local music talents have released music videos for their latest singles. Personally, I feel a sense of pride listening and watching performances from local artists as they have come a long way since they first broke into the scene. The first would be ¼ of The Sam Willows, Narelle Kheng. This would be her first ever venture solo; Cheryl’s review of the song and video here

The second would be Nathan Hartono’s video for Electricity; this video is definitely a 180-degree turn from Narelle’s dark and emotional piece. Read here to find out more
